Little Rock Air Force Base, situated in central Arkansas adjacent to the city of Jacksonville, is globally recognized as the “Home of Herk Nation.” As the Department of Defense’s premier C-130 Hercules training and operations center, the base’s entire mission revolves around this rugged and versatile tactical airlifter. The host unit, the 19th Airlift Wing (19 AW), falls under Air Mobility Command (AMC) and is responsible for providing combat-ready forces to execute and sustain global airlift operations. This includes everything from airdropping troops and equipment into hostile areas to providing humanitarian relief across the globe. The 19 AW works in close partnership with the Air Force Reserve Command’s 913th Airlift Group, also flying the C-130J, enhancing the total airlift capability of the installation.

A cornerstone of the base’s mission is formal training. The 314th Airlift Wing, an Air Education and Training Command (AETC) unit, serves as the C-130 schoolhouse, training pilots, navigators, flight engineers, and loadmasters from all branches of the U.S. military and dozens of allied nations. They are joined by the 189th Airlift Wing of the Arkansas Air National Guard, which also provides C-130 aircrew training, making Little Rock AFB the foundational training ground for the entire C-130 enterprise.

Personnel and families stationed at Little Rock AFB are part of a tight-knit community with strong ties to the surrounding cities of Jacksonville, Cabot, and Sherwood, as well as the greater Little Rock metropolitan area. The base offers comprehensive support services, and the region, known as “The Natural State,” provides abundant outdoor recreational opportunities.
