Base Overview

Known as the “Cradle of Naval Aviation” in Pensacola, FL, serving as the primary training base for Naval Flight Officers and home of the world-famous Blue Angels.
Naval Air Station Pensacola, situated on the beautiful white-sand shores of the Florida Panhandle, is renowned as the “Cradle of Naval Aviation.” With a legacy spanning over a century, this historic installation is the epicenter for flight training for the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Its primary mission is to train the next generation of combat aviators, molding officers and enlisted personnel into the skilled professionals who control the skies and seas.

The base is home to Naval Air Schools Command (NASC), which oversees the initial training pipeline for all prospective Naval Aviators and Naval Flight Officers (NFOs). Student NFOs complete their entire primary, intermediate, and advanced training here under Training Air Wing Six (TRAWING 6). Additionally, the Naval Aviation Technical Training Center (NATTC) provides technical “A” school training for thousands of enlisted aviation support personnel annually. This comprehensive training enterprise makes NAS Pensacola one of the busiest and most vital installations for the future of naval aviation.

Beyond its core training mission, NAS Pensacola is famously the home base for the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels. The breathtaking precision and skill of the “Blues” inspire millions and serve as a powerful symbol of naval aviation excellence. The base also hosts the National Naval Aviation Museum, one of the world’s largest aviation museums, which draws visitors from around the globe to witness its incredible collection of historic aircraft and artifacts.

Personnel and their families stationed at NAS Pensacola enjoy a vibrant coastal lifestyle, with access to world-class beaches, a historic downtown, and a community that deeply embraces its military heritage. From the first steps of aspiring aviators to the awe-inspiring performances of the Blue Angels, NAS Pensacola continues its legacy as the undisputed heart of Naval Aviation.
