Travis Air Force Base, strategically located in Northern California’s Solano County between Sacramento and San Francisco, is the largest and most diverse air mobility installation in the U.S. Air Force. As the “Gateway to the Pacific,” Travis AFB is a critical hub for projecting American power and providing humanitarian aid throughout the Indo-Pacific region and across the globe. Its mission is focused on providing rapid, reliable global mobility for U.S. armed forces in peace and war.

The host unit, the 60th Air Mobility Wing (60 AMW), is the largest air mobility wing in the Air Force. The “Travis Team” is unique in that it operates four different mobility airframes: the massive C-5M Super Galaxy and versatile C-17 Globemaster III for strategic airlift, and the KC-10 Extender and next-generation KC-46A Pegasus for aerial refueling. This diverse fleet provides unparalleled flexibility to support any contingency, from combat operations to natural disaster relief.

Enhancing this capability is the 349th Air Mobility Wing, the largest associate wing in the Air Force Reserve Command. These Citizen Airmen work side-by-side with their active-duty counterparts, flying and maintaining the same C-5M, C-17, KC-10, and KC-46 aircraft in a seamless Total Force Integration partnership. Travis is also home to David Grant USAF Medical Center, a major regional military medical facility and training platform that serves a vast number of beneficiaries throughout the region.

Personnel and families stationed at Travis AFB are part of a large and active military community with strong ties to the surrounding cities of Fairfield, Suisun City, and Vacaville. The base’s location offers unique opportunities for travel and recreation, with wine country, major cities, mountains, and the coast all within a few hours’ drive.
