Tyndall Air Force Base, situated on a picturesque peninsula along Florida’s Emerald Coast near Panama City, is currently undergoing a revolutionary transformation. Following widespread devastation from Hurricane Michael in 2018, the base is being completely rebuilt from the ground up as the U.S. Air Force’s first “Installation of the Future.” This multi-billion dollar effort focuses on creating a resilient, technologically advanced, and strategically important installation designed to project 21st-century air dominance.

The host unit, the 325th Fighter Wing of Air Combat Command (ACC), has the primary mission to train and project unrivaled combat airpower on behalf of the United States. Tyndall is now home to the F-35A Lightning II, the nation’s premier stealth fighter. The base is on track to host three full F-35 squadrons, making it a critical hub for 5th-generation fighter operations and training. The vast overwater training ranges of the Gulf of Mexico provide an unparalleled environment for air combat training.

As the “Installation of the Future,” every new facility at Tyndall is being constructed to withstand severe weather and incorporate smart technologies to enhance mission effectiveness and quality of life.
